Poor Hachiko just can't catch a break. First he dies waiting for a master that will never return, then gets stuffed and mounted in a museum. Now the poor thing is being remembered in the most garish way possible: as a rhinestone-encrusted...thing, judging by this video from Japan Probe (available after the jump).
A replica of the famous life-sized memorial statue in Shibuya has been absolutely drowned in glittery pink rhinestones and crystal adornments, resulting in the so-called "Love Hachiko," part of the "Deco-style" art lineup. The artists who sullied Hachiko's honor are also known for doing the same to Mt. Fuji in a previous work.
I hope Dog Heaven is treating Hachiko's memory well, because fallible humans on earth haven't.
